New Mexico Family Infant Toddler Program

In 1993, we were awarded a contract to produce a public awareness campaign to enhance general knowledge of developmental delays among children birth to age three as well as the critical importance of early intervention services. Our goal was to educate the state’s legislators on the importance of continuing to fund these services under Part H of the IDEA initiative and educate the general public to encourage referrals to and participation in the program.

Our activities and services for this campaign, which resulted in the funding bill being one of the first pieces of legislation passed into law in the 1994 session, included:

  • Development of a program theme/campaign name
  • Formation of a statewide coalition to unite service providers and concerned individuals throughout the state for common activities, such as education of legislators
  • Adaptation of an existing program logo
  • Production of a seven-minute video, “The Tigers Are Sleeping,” to educate the general public and legislators
  • Production of a half-hour special on developmental delay on KOB TV-4 that featured Dee Johnson, wife of then-Gov. Gary Johnson and Dr. Dale Alverson
  • Design and production of a four-part direct mail series aimed at the New Mexico State Legislature
  • Design and production of a poster
  • Design and production of a 1993 calendar featuring children in New Mexico who received services through the program
  • Design and production of a general brochure on developmental delay

Our services have been re-contracted by the Family Infant Toddler Program each year since 1994. During these years, our activities have included:

  • A brochure on the rights of families and parents when having a child evaluated, assessed and linked with early intervention services
  • Note cards featuring profiles of children who appeared in the 1996 calendar with their developmental progress since receiving services listed on back

  • Design and production of a three-part referral form for providers
  • Dissemination of audiotapes in English, Navajo and Spanish on “Parent Guide for Early Intervention”
  • Radio and television PSAs
  • Design and production of flow charts on the early intervention system, detailing screening, evaluation/assessment and service options
  • “Development Wheels” in English and Spanish that guide parents in their child’s development from birth to age 3 years, and provide ideas for activities that will promote development (see Samples of Previous Work tab)
  • A general brochure that explains early intervention, development states and provides contacts for additional information and help (see Samples of Previous Work tab)
  • An attractive and colorful display for the above brochure
  • Design and production of Family Infant Toddler Program annual reports to deliver important and useful statistics about the program to the governor, New Mexico State Legislators and other interested organizations and individuals (see Samples of Previous Work tab)
